Press Conference, Ruby Brunton

In cross, poetry, Ruby Brunton on July 19, 2011 at 8:40 am

Topic of the day: How to avoid a scandal
My dears, you have three options
the rumours you can deny,
the story you can spin,
or you can flat out lie.
Each of you has a role card.
We have our shamed public figures,
their communications officers,
and the rest, members of the press.
But teacher I don’t know what to say…
You can say things like
“I deeply regret my actions”
“Of course I know nothing about a secret Swiss bank account”
“Had the disaster been predicted,
we would have done all we could to avoid it”
“To anyone I have hurt, I am truly sorry.”
But teacher I don’t know what to say…
You can say things like:
“My client is not here to discuss this issue”
“My client is under a lot of pressure
at the moment.
Please show some respect.”
“My client will no longer take questions
of a personal nature.”
The hard-nosed journos had a chance to play
And overall a lot of collocations were learned today.
